About Outdoor Ingenuities of Canton, MI...
Where it all began.
In 1987 there were two guys named Terry and Perry who worked together in the K-Mart Distribution Center in Canton, MI. Although they did not mind the hard work, they did not find their work challenging or satisfying. Because they both had talents in the construction field, they started by helping out a few coworkers with their backyard projects. It was hard work building decks on the side and maintaining two jobs, but they found it exhilarating to work outdoors. Their quickly expanding clientèle were absolutely pleased with their projects. They could not believe the quality and value that these boys provided.
Soon word of their exceptional work spread like wildfire and they could barely keep up with the demand they had. Although Perry really enjoyed the work, his calling was in another field. However, Terry knew that this is what he was meant to do. He experienced great pleasure from meeting satisfied clients, so he went back to school and earned his education in the field.
Terry soon realized the frustrations of wearing too many hats, so he had to expand his work force to accommodate the design and day-to-day office work. The long and grueling hours was taking such a toll on Terry working two jobs that a pivotal decision had to be made. Should he stay with his safe job providing all the benefits and insurance, or follow his calling and hope he would be able to support his family? With all the support and encouragement of his family and friends, who knew he had what it takes to succeed, he bid K-Mart farewell and never looked back as Outdoor Ingenuities became his sole focus. (Good choice Terry!)
It was at this point he had changed his company name from Worful Building and Design to Outdoor Ingenuities, hired more talented individuals, and moved the business from his home to an old, run down, decrepit house which they took one look at and said "Perfect!" After numerous remodels to accommodate their growth, the old house still serves as the showroom and home away from home to this day.
While Terry can occasionally be found swinging a hammer, his full time work is in the enjoyment of meeting new clients and handling the details of a well executed project. While surrounding himself with top notch personnel, of the likes of Jackie and Luis to name just a couple, Terry has experienced "the best of times and the worst of times as big retailers tried to squash us and the little guys tried to undercut us, but through it all, we stuck to our work ethics and principles and have survived!"
Outdoor Ingenuities: Where we are now
Growing from two men swinging a hammer, today Outdoor Ingenuities designs, installs, and oversees over 200 projects a year! And not just decks either. Outdoor Ingenuities provides everything for your perfect backyard retreat including patios, pergolas & gazebos, outdoor kitchens, hot tub sales & service, waterfalls, landscaping and interior remodeling as well. At Outdoor Ingenuities we have always referred to ourselves as a friends & family owned & operated business because we are ALWAYS friends and feel like family. Evey dedicated employee runs their position as if this company were their own and that is what makes us who we are today!
